| My design motivation is drawn from many places but my main source of inspiration is architectural shapes and forms. These shapes can be large such as buildings or tiny natural structures only seen through the use of macro and micro photography. To me these images offer a unique insight into the complexity of our environment and a secret element of the world we don't see or notice. This hidden aspect is something I like to add to my pieces making the wearer or viewer have to look closer to see an enclosed stone or detail. I want my jewellery pieces to make the most of the natural qualities of the metal as well as the gemstones. My jewellery is focussed around the use of precious materials such as silver and 18ct gold with the use of precious and semi-precious stones, but I also like to exploit the different advantages of non-precious materials such as aluminium, polymer clay and perspex combining them with silver and smi-precious stones in original ways to highlight the different textures and properties of the materials. |
